YouTunes Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
YouTunes is a local-first music and video player for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is protected. The short version: YouTunes does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal information, and your media stays on your device unless you choose to enable iCloud sync through Apple's own services.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require you to create an account or sign in to us.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- We do not include analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
Information Stored on Your Device
Everything YouTunes manages is stored locally inside the app's sandbox:
- Media files you import from the Files app, the share sheet, or other apps.
- Library metadata such as title, artist, album, artwork, lyrics, and subtitles.
- A local database that indexes your library so it can be searched and sorted.
- Caches such as artwork thumbnails and video first frames.
- Log files used for debugging, for example failed imports.
This information stays on your device and is not sent to the developer.
iCloud Sync (Optional)
When you are signed in to iCloud and use the Sync feature, YouTunes stores your library metadata and media files in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit. This data is associated with your Apple ID and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The developer cannot read, access, or recover data from your private iCloud database. You can stop syncing at any time and delete the synced data from within the app or from your device's iCloud storage settings.
Photo Library
If you choose to set custom artwork for a track, YouTunes asks for access to your photo library only so you can pick an image. The selected image is written into the track's metadata on your device. YouTunes does not upload your photos anywhere.
Imports and the Share Extension
Files you import directly or through the "Import to Music" share extension are copied into the app and stored locally. The share extension only processes the files you explicitly select, and it hands them to the app on your device.
Data Retention and Deletion
- You can delete individual tracks, playlists, and downloaded files at any time from within the app.
- Deleting a track from Everywhere removes its iCloud record along with the local file.
- Removing the app deletes its local data from your device. Data previously synced to iCloud remains in your private iCloud database until you delete it.
Security
Your media and library are stored in the app's protected sandbox. Data synced through iCloud is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest.
Children's Privacy
YouTunes does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because the app collects no personal data, it complies with applicable children's privacy regulations.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
